A Constitution Should Help A Country Govern, Not Hobble It

My short essay ‘A Constitution Should Help A Country Govern, Not Hobble It‘ is up at Aeon Magazine. Comments welcome. (Many thanks to Sam Haselby, my editor at Aeon, for all his help.)

  1. You have obviously never read the US Constitution because if you had you would know that the United States is not now, never has been, nor ever will be a democracy. Article 4 of the US Constitution guarantees a republican form of government. Without a republican form of government there would be no enumerated rights to protect those in the minority. As Benjamin Franklin said, “Democracy is two wolves and a sheep deciding what to have for dinner.” Under a republican form of government, sheep is not on the menu because the Constitution says so. I would suggest reading the Constitution before you write anything about it and make yourself look like a fool.
